Ultrasound is a painless diagnostic test that assists in the diagnosis and management of specific medical issues.

Instead of using radiation as X-rays do, ultrasound tests look at different parts of the body using reflected sound waves. Ultrasound is the ideal imaging method for expectant moms and their unborn children because there is no radiation exposure.

Ultrasound is quite good at assessing a variety of specific body parts, and it works particularly well on cavities like the abdomen. The ultrasound scanner is made up of a console with a computer, a video display screen, and a transducer, a tiny handheld device that produces the image. A sound wave is emitted by the transducer, which then waits for the echo or return wave and the result can be seen on screen in form of video instantly.
